It's National Firefighters Day!

Today we celebrate our Firefighters! We are beyond thankful for the men and women that risk their lives every day to keep us safe and fire free!
We at SERVPRO of Desoto, Tate, & Tunica Counties don't get to thank our firefighters enough for the hard work they do every single day. We do want each and every one of them to know how thankful we are for them and how much we truely appreciate all of their work and efforts!
Here are some fun facts about firefighters!
1. It all started with a bucket! A bucket brigade to be exact! One line would pass buckets full of water to the fire, and the other would pass empty ones back to the well to be refilled. Glad we've upgraded since!
2. Most firefighters are volunteers! Of the more than one million firefighters, 73% of those are volunteers.
3. The Dalmation isn't just a cute mascot! Dalmations were first chosen because they could guard the horses and equipment at the firehouse and on location at fires.
4. They carry around an extra 60 pounds - - that's like carrying around a 9 year old!
5. Benjamin Franklin not only invented the lightning rod and bifocals, he is responsible for the first fire company in Philadelphia!
